Green Copper Sheet

Green copper stainless steel reproduces verdigris — the blue-green patina copper develops after long-term oxidation, the same effect seen on aged copper roofing and statuary. The range spans from a deep charcoal-green through classic teal/turquoise tones to mottled transitional finishes where rust-orange and green sit together, echoing copper mid-way through its natural weathering process. The base material is stainless steel, not solid copper. We supply this finish across grades 201, 304, 316 and 430.

How the Verdigris Effect Is Made

The process starts with a base surface texture, then goes through PVD coating or water plating to build the green patina tone. The coloring is worked in unevenly on purpose, producing the mottled, weathered surface verdigris develops naturally outdoors rather than a single flat green.

The extent and mix of this process sets the final character — a controlled, even application produces the deeper solid teal-green tones, while a more irregular process produces the mottled finishes where orange, brown, and green sit together, closer to copper caught mid-transition. Because this is a range, we can match it to a specific reference or sample.

Surface Textures of Green Copper Panels

    Flat Finishes

These irregular, mottled patterns are hand-dyed onto the surface, closer to how copper naturally oxidizes outdoors. The base can also carry an added hairline or vibration texture underneath the coloring, for a look that combines the mottled patina with fine surface scratching.

    Raised Textures — Embossed, Etched

These add physical depth rather than just surface color. Embossed and etched textures reproduce the pitting and surface breakdown that bronze develops over long exposure — the raised and recessed areas take the coloring differently, so the aged look comes from the texture itself, not a layer sitting on top of it.

Green copper carries a specific set of associations most metals don't — weathered copper roofs, aged statuary, the verdigris on old church domes and public monuments. That history makes it a strong choice for projects aiming for age, permanence, and outdoor weathered character rather than a polished interior look.

    Exterior & Facade Applications:

    • Roofing accents and canopy cladding
    • Building facade panels
    • Monument and signage cladding
    • Planters and exterior fixtures

    Statement Interior Applications:

    • Museum and gallery feature walls
    • Artisan-focused retail and hospitality interiors
    • Sculptural panels and art installations
    • Accent walls in heritage-themed spaces

Our green copper sheet metal can be bent or punched to match your project's mounting requirements.

    About the Green Copper Process

Every green copper sheet begins as plain grey-silver stainless steel. The final look comes down to how the surface is polished and how the patina coloring is layered on afterward — no two combinations produce quite the same result, which is part of why each sheet ends up one of a kind.

Here's how a sheet moves through production:

    1. We start from your chosen stainless steel grade — 201, 304, 316, or 430

    2. The verdigris tone is built up through an oxidation coloring stage

    3. From there, the aged texture takes one of two directions:
      • Grabado — a raised, tactile pattern sits beneath the patina for real dimensional depth
      • Estándar — the patina stays flat, reading as natural surface weathering

    4. Each sheet gets hand-finished to bring out the mottled character in the coloring

    5. A protective clear coat goes on last, locking in the finish and slowing any further oxidation

    FAQS

Is this made from solid copper?

No — the base is stainless steel (201/304/316/430). The verdigris color comes from an oxidation coloring process applied to the surface, so you get the look of aged copper with stainless steel's durability and corrosion resistance underneath.

How does this compare to your Antique Copper finish?

Antique Copper stays in the red-brown range — an earlier stage of copper's natural weathering. This finish picks up where that leaves off, moving into the blue-green verdigris that develops over longer exposure. If red-brown is closer to what you need, that page is the better fit. Explore Antique copper stainless steel.

Can I get a raised texture instead of a flat patina?

Yes, that's what the etched option is for — it builds physical relief beneath the coloring rather than staying flat. The standard process, by comparison, keeps the surface smooth with the weathering effect coming through color alone.

We're installing across a large wall or facade — how do you keep it from looking patchy?

Send us your drawings, or the surface dimensions, and we'll map out how the mottling should distribute across panels before production starts. That planning step is what keeps a multi-panel installation reading as one surface instead of a set of mismatched sheets.

    Does this hold up outdoors?

Yes — it's built to. The standard protective coating helps stabilize the color, but for outdoor installations we recommend adding an exterior-grade topcoat on top of it, which further slows oxidation and extends how long the finish holds its appearance before needing to be reapplied.
