Super Duplex 2507 Stainless Steel Coil and Sheet

Super duplex 2507 (UNS S32750, EN 1.4410), also sold as 2207. A ferritic-austenitic structure with 25% chromium, 7% nickel and 4% molybdenum gives very high strength and outstanding resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, for seawater, desalination and offshore oil and gas.

Why choose super duplex 2507?

When both corrosion resistance and strength are critical.

Chloride resistance

Far better pitting and crevice corrosion resistance than 316L or 317L, and high resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking.

Very high strength

Yield strength more than twice that of 304L and 316L, with good fatigue resistance.

Severe service

Seawater desalination plants, offshore oil and gas platforms and other aggressive environments.

The same material. "2207" is a name some suppliers use for UNS S32750, the super duplex grade known as 2507.

Corrosion, heat and the shop floor.

How 2507 behaves in service and in fabrication.

Heat resistance

Not a high-temperature grade: like all duplex steels, use is normally limited to about 300 °C (570 °F), above which it can become brittle.

Hot working

1024–1177 °C (1875–2150 °F), then rapid cooling.

Cold working

Needs more forming force than austenitic grades.

Welding

Standard methods with duplex practice: controlled heat input and a matching super duplex filler. Post-weld heat treatment is normally not required.

Annealing

1038–1149 °C (1900–2100 °F), then rapid cooling.

Hardening

Not hardenable by heat treatment, only by cold working.

2205 or 2507?

Both are duplex; 2507 goes further.

Strength

2507 is stronger: minimum tensile strength 795 MPa against 655 MPa for 2205.

Corrosion resistance

2507 has more chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen, for better pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in high-chloride environments.

Cost and use

2205 costs less and suits general chemical plant. 2507 is for marine, desalination and oil and gas service.

Questions buyers ask before ordering 2507.

Is duplex 2207 the same as super duplex 2507?

Yes. "2207" is a name used for UNS S32750, which is super duplex 2507.

Can 2507 be used in seawater?

Yes. Its resistance to chloride-induced corrosion makes it a standard choice for marine and desalination systems.

What is the main difference between 2205 and 2507?
