Duplex Stainless Steel 2207 Coil and Sheet

2207 duplex stainless steel plates have a ferrite/austenite structure, with the key characteristics of excellent resistance to chloride corrosion and extremely high mechanical strength. It outperforms 316L or 317L austenitic stainless steels in terms of pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in almost all corrosive media, and can compete with SS 904L or 6% Mo super-austenitic stainless steels. It is highly suitable for service in severe corrosive environments, such as seawater desalination plants and subsea applications.

In addition to its exceptionally high tensile and yield strength levels, 2207 duplex stainless steel typically exhibits optimal performance after heat treatment, particularly in addressing stress corrosion cracking issues.

Duplex Stainless Steel 2207 Processing

Corrosion Resistance of 2207 Stainless Steel

Superior corrosion resistance in most environments, especially chlorides.

Heat Resistance of 2207 Stainless Steel

Good resistance to scaling and oxidation up to 600°C.

Machinability of 2207 Stainless Steel

2207 has good machinability but work hardens rapidly. Carbide tooling and proper cooling are recommended.

Welding of 2207 Stainless Steel

Can be welded using most standard methods. Post-weld heat treatment may be necessary to avoid stress corrosion cracking.

Hot Working of 2207 Stainless Steel

Hot working should be done at 1875 – 2150°F (1024 – 1177°C). Followed by rapid cooling.

Annealing of 2207 Stainless Steel

Annealing should be performed at 1900 – 2100°F (1038 – 1149°C) followed by rapid cooling.

Cold Working of 2207 Stainless Steel

Can be cold worked but requires more force than austenitic grades.

Hardening of 2207 Stainless Steel

2207 cannot be hardened by heat treatment. Hardening is achieved only through cold working.

Duplex Stainless Steel 2207 vs 2205

2207 and 2205 duplex stainless steels share many similarities in terms of their microstructure, mechanical performance, corrosion resistance, and application areas, but their properties and compositions are slightly different.

Strength and hardness:

2207 has higher tensile strength and yield strength than 2205.

Corrosion resistance

207 has better pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in high-chloride environments compared to 2205.

Application areas:

2207 is more suitable for extremely corrosive environments and applications.
