The 2B finish is one of the most common surface treatments for stainless steel. It involves lightly polishing cold-rolled, softened, and descaled hot-rolled stainless steel coils through polished rollers in a process known as skin passing. The resulting surface is a matte gray, similar to a smooth, hazy mirror. It has a mild gloss but is not highly reflective.
Compared to a BA finish, the 2B surface is less reflective but easy to maintain. This makes it ideal for a wide range of applications, from baking trays and kitchenware to piping systems, wheel covers, and industrial uses like solar panels and other equipment. It is also used as a base finish for decorative sheets that can later be embossed or colored.
Characteristics: 201 stainless steel contains higher manganese and lower nickel, offering good corrosion resistance and strength, but its corrosion resistance is not as strong as that of 304 and 316. It is relatively inexpensive.
Common Applications: Often used in kitchen equipment, tableware, furniture, and some architectural decorative materials.
304 is a standard stainless steel with higher carbon content, while 304L is a low-carbon version that offers better corrosion resistance and weldability.
Applications:
Application:
316 Stainless Steel: Marine environments, chemical equipment, food processing.
Characteristics: 430 stainless steel is a ferritic stainless steel with high chromium content, offering good corrosion resistance but lower strength and toughness, and it does not have good weldability.
Common Applications: Commonly used in automotive exhaust systems, appliance exteriors, kitchen utensils, and decorative purposes.
