What is quilted stainless steel?

Quilted stainless steel, also called diamond quilted or diamond pattern stainless, is one of the embossed, textured stainless steel finishes. A regular grid of raised diamonds (rhombuses) is embossed into the sheet face, giving a padded, "quilted" look similar to tufted upholstery.
"Quilted" is the umbrella term and "diamond quilted" names the diamond motif. In stainless steel the cells are almost always diamonds, so the two terms are used interchangeably.
Like all embossed and textured stainless steel, the relief breaks up reflections to cut glare, hides fingerprints and everyday wear, and adds rigidity to the panel.

Four diamond patterns.

Quilted is not a single look. The diamond pattern comes in two shapes and two line profiles, so you can match the texture to the panel and the project.

Shape

Square diamond: an even, symmetrical rhombus grid, the classic quilted look.
Elongated diamond: taller, stretched diamonds for a bolder, directional texture.

Line profile

Fine line: crisp, shallow diamond outlines for a subtle, refined surface.
Beveled: deeper, chamfered diamond edges with stronger light and shadow.

Cell sizes.

Square diamonds come in three cell sizes. Elongated diamonds come in one fixed size.

Square diamond

Small 3″ (76 mm), standard 6″ (152 mm) and large 12″ (305 mm).

Elongated diamond

Fixed at 4″ × 8″ (102 × 203 mm), for a stretched, directional look.

Line profile

Every cell size comes in either line profile, fine line or beveled.

Colors and finishes.

Every quilted sheet can take PVD color coating over the embossed texture: texture and color on one panel, durable and corrosion-resistant. This goes beyond the plain mirror or brushed quilted sheet most suppliers stop at.
