    For ceilings, Medium is the most common choice: ceilings are usually lit by diffused overhead light, and Medium reads clearly under that even light without the angled accent lighting Deep needs.

    How to choose

    Choose depth by climate and light.

    Ripple depth depends on the room’s lighting and on the region’s daylight, especially near windows or skylights.
    Strong, direct daylight (Middle East, Southeast Asia, Mediterranean coast): Deep ripple reads well, the directional light it needs is there most of the day.
    Diffused daylight (Northern Europe, UK, Pacific Northwest): Medium or Shallow is the reliable choice under soft, overcast light.
    Coastal or high humidity: pair the depth with 316/316L for long-term corrosion resistance.

    Skip recessed fixtures

    Cutting fixtures into the panel creates hotspots and breaks the ripple. Use surface-mounted fixtures or LED strips in the seams.

    Install horizontally

    Horizontal panels read more evenly under top-down light than vertical ones.

    Start from Medium

    Medium does not depend on directional light the way Deep does, so it is the safest default.

    Below 0.5 mm the sheet is too fragile to process reliably; above 2.0 mm it is hard to form and adds weight the grid must carry. Weights are for sheet metal only (density ~8.0 g/cm³), excluding keel, backing board and fixtures. Deep panels run roughly double the weight of Shallow/Medium, so confirm keel spacing and load capacity with your keel supplier or structural engineer.

    Installation and grid load.

    Water ripple ceiling panels are decorative, not structural: even at 2.0 mm the sheet carries no load. What matters is the panel weight your ceiling grid has to support, and how the ceiling is lit.

    Weight and grid load guidance

    The ripple depth you choose sets the sheet thickness, and so the weight on your keel system. Approximate panel weight, based on stainless steel density of ~8.0 g/cm³:

    Deep
    Deep ripple panels run roughly double the weight per square meter of Shallow/Medium panels. For large ceiling areas that affects keel spacing and grid load capacity, so share these figures with your keel supplier or structural engineer before finalizing the depth, especially for Deep on large spans. Figures are for sheet metal only and exclude the keel, backing board, lighting fixtures and other ceiling components. They are not a structural engineering recommendation: confirm final grid spacing and load capacity with your structural engineer or keel supplier.

    Lighting and installation for ceilings

    Ceilings are almost always lit by diffused overhead light rather than direct spotlighting. A few things matter more here than on walls:

    Avoid recessed fixtures cut into the panel

    They create localized hotspots and break the ripple’s continuity. Surface-mounted fixtures or seam-integrated LED strips work better.

    Install horizontally

    Horizontal installation generally reads more evenly under top-down light than vertical orientation.

    Medium is the safest default

    It does not depend on directional light the way Deep does.

    How much does water ripple sheet for ceiling cost?

    Pricing depends on grade, ripple pattern and depth, PVD color, thickness and panel size. Send your ceiling plan for a project-specific quote.

    What ripple pattern works best for ceilings?

    Random / Natural Ripple in Medium depth is the most common choice, since it reads well under diffused overhead light without directional accent lighting.

    Is it suitable for humid areas like pools or spas?

    Yes. For high-humidity or chlorinated environments, 316/316L is recommended over standard 304 for long-term corrosion resistance.

    How heavy are the panels?

    About 4.8 kg/m² at 0.6 mm up to 16 kg/m² at 2.0 mm. Deep ripple uses thicker sheet and runs roughly double the weight of Shallow or Medium.

    Will the pattern line up across panels?

    Yes. We plan the panel arrangement from your ceiling layout to keep the ripple continuous across seams, and label each piece for assembly.

    What is the minimum order and lead time?

    Both depend on the project: ceiling area, pattern, depth and color. Send your ceiling plan and we confirm them with the quote.

    How should a rippled ceiling be lit?
