What Is Vibration Stainless Steel?

Vibration is a non-directional pattern — a dense field of short, irregular arcs that, from a distance, reads as overlapping circles rather than a single brushed line.

Because the lines run in every direction instead of one, the pattern hides fingerprints and light scratches and stays non-reflective — a standard choice for elevator cabs, wall cladding, and handrails.

How It's Made: Machine vs. Hand Vibration

Machine Vibration — an orbital polishing head rotates and revolves across the sheet in a fixed path, producing a consistent, repeatable pattern. The standard method for most orders.

Hand Vibration — a technician traces irregular arcs by hand instead of a fixed path. The result is finer and more detailed than a machine pass, and no two sheets are identical — the option for a custom, one-of-a-kind texture. At its finest, the pattern is dense enough that from a distance it can read almost like a sandblasted surface, only revealing its swirl up close.

What's the difference between vibration and a standard No.4 or hairline (satin) finish?

No.4 and hairline finishes are directional — parallel lines running in one direction across the sheet. Vibration is non-directional: the arcs overlap in every direction instead of following a single grain, which is what gives it the swirled, circular look rather than a straight brushed line.

Can I use it outdoors?

Yes. Specify 316 / 316L for coastal or high-humidity environments; 304 is fine for general exterior use. For outdoor installations, we can also apply a protective topcoat to help the finish resist weathering and keep its appearance over the long term.

Can the texture, color, or size be customized?

Yes. Machine or hand vibration, matte or mirror base, PVD color, sheet thickness, and panel size can all be tailored to your project. Send us your specifications or a reference image and we'll match it.
